Why are we so afraid of letting go?
As one of my favorite business mentors likes to say, we need to let go in order to grow.
You know by now that a life-changing assistant can help you reclaim your time by taking on all the tasks that don’t contribute to your business's growth so you can do more and get time back for what’s most important in your life.
So, what is it that keeps us from delegating?
- Fear of Losing Control
Many business owners feel that relinquishing tasks might result in losing control over their operations. They feel that someone else will not be able to complete their work up to their standards.
- Solution: Use a phased delegation approach, starting with less critical tasks to build trust and confidence over time. Establish clear communication channels with your assistant so they can keep you up to speed, and empower them to ask questions when needed. Be approachable!
- Lack of Trust
Business owners often doubt their assistant’s capability to handle important tasks, worrying that the quality of work might suffer.
- Solution: Take the time to train your assistant. We love tools like Komodo, which allow us to quickly create video tutorials and SOPs for our assistants to reference and complete their best work. Get to know your assistant, align tasks with their strengths, and provide the necessary support to build a foundation of trust. Most importantly, create a culture where they feel empowered and look forward to doing their best work.
- Inadequate Delegation Skills:
Some business owners lack the skills to delegate effectively, resulting in unclear instructions, mismatched task assignments, and inefficiency.
- Solution: We need to learn and improve each day as leaders! Learning to set clear objectives and provide adequate resources will streamline your delegation process and boost the confidence of both you and your assistant.
- Not Having Systems and Processes
Without systems and processes, businesses can quickly become disorganized, and leaders can be overwhelmed with more “to-do” lists than they can handle, which depletes their capacity to delegate effectively.
- Solution: Develop systems and processes that streamline your business workflow. Have your assistant help you map out, create, and execute systems to help your business grow while gaining efficiency and reclaiming your valuable time.
We all can grow in our leadership skills and become great mentors for our assistants.
And the best part?
We’re getting our time back along the way because now we have an EMPOWERED assistant on our side.
